China Southern Plans Guangzhou-Brisbane-Auckland Route - China Hospitality News - Corporate and Leisure Travel Planning for Hotels, Airlines, Meetings, and Events in China

China Southern Airlines is planning to launch an international roundtrip air route between Guangzhou, Brisbane, and Auckland from November 3, 2010.

Yet another airline flying BNE-AKL. So now we'll have QANTAS, Air New Zealand, Pacific Blue, Emirates and China Southern. NB, does Royal Brunei still do BNE-AKL?

Not to mention the other airlines from SYD, LAN and Aerolineas Argentina.

And Jetstar from OOL. Rumour has it Air Asia X may also start flying OOL-AKL soon.

Brisbane to China is exciting (for me at least). It may help open routes more than SYD/PVG

Mr!

That is assuming they’ll be allowed to sell seats between BNE and AKL. They could be in the same boat (a/c?) as CX who don’t sell seats between CNS and BNE?

AFAIK, due to the trans tasman single aviation market, any airline that has the right to fly to Australia also has the right to operate 5th freedom flights onwards to NZ, and vice versa.

CNS-BNE would be a domestic flight, so not covered. See Eighth Freedom.

Although not cited in the article, would this blurb mean RyanAir could set up a domestic service in New Zealand if they wanted to:

New Zealand had previously exchanged eighth-freedom rights with Ireland in 1999.

Or would that only be covered under ninth-freedom?

Hopefully some good Guangzhou connections to either AMS or CDG.
Nice to have 3 Skyteam carriers adding routes to/from Oz.
