Not bad, depends on the $ I guess? how much is it with other airlines via other ports? 4 hours in Shangai ain't that bad.

4 hours is not to bad as it will take a while to transfer the Chinese airports are easy, just not quick. I do not find MU bad, however @Dr Ralph posted a different MU experience flight report Here

Hi All,

Via Shanghai will be a transfer totally contained within Terminal 1, and you will stay airside. You just clear security before going back to the departures level. Seats and service a good. Food so-so. IFE... BYO.

Thanks guys- should have made clear, the flight completely covered by points( classic rewards).
My immediate reaction was to grab it.
Just to confirm- it is a proper flatbed ?

I flew SYD-PVG-FRA one way in late July on MU, QF classic reward. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. And, for 139k points and $250 in taxes, it was very good value (as long as you don't get stuck with a dodgy old plane like Dr Ralph).

Yes, the food wasn't fantastic but I stuck to the white fish dishes on both legs and they were palatable. Service was so-so but not for lack of trying (just probably lack of training). IFE is absolute rubbish but I had books and my iPad. The seats, however, were great. Really comfortable. I was on an A350 SYD-PVG (with the little doors) and B777 PVG-FRA. I actually found the MU B777 seat much more comfortable for sleeping than the SQ one on the way back.

I know i’m the odd one out here... but the ‘old dodgy’ plane actually has some of the best beds. The only thing they lack is privacy, but that is made up for with bed length, width, padding, and no cubbies for your feet or legs.

When the cabin is not full, getting a double bed/seat combo is actually pretty neat.
