Big trip starting this coming weekend, firstly BNE-SYD-HKG on QF flights in J as the final two sectors of a OW Circle Pacific fare started in HKG 12 months ago, ticketed by CX, from which I have been on an 11 month stopover in my home port.
Six hrs after landing in HKG I start a new OW OWE J itinerary (also ticketed by CX), flying just the first sector HKG-LHR on a CX flight.

Question is - will QF issue boarding passes and check my luggage all the way BNE-SYD-HKG-LHR, or will they not be able to do that because it would span two itineraries (separate booking refs)? If so, I guess I will need to collect my checked-in luggage on arrival in HKG, then immediately go check it in again for the CX flt to LHR? If so, will I need to exit through immigration control to get to the check-in counter?

Should be able to as only three segments and no timing >24hrs which can cause issues.

That said more work for checkin agent so YMMV

QF will through check baggage for separate itineraries provided it is all OneWorld. So you should be good to go. If the agent is reluctant to do it, they can check with one of their colleagues.
