Changing travel dates

I booked 2 tickets for my wife and daughter 4 months ago Sydney fukuoka from 21 sept return 6th oct on jal .I rang and wanted to change the tickets to dec 30th return 14th jan same route I was also going to purchase a ticket for myself in dec same date. flight centre quoted aus$ 550 each ticket to change the date to dec aus $aus1100 all up is this standard change of date price any info appreciated. at this price ill just leave it

You could try giving JAL a call to see what they say. Did you book with FC?

It could well be the right price... fares around new year can be much more expensive... and then there are likely change fees as well. Have you checked the price of the new fare on-line? That will give you an idea of how much is actually fare difference, and how much is the change fee. (Just go to the airline website who will be flying you and do a dummy booking for the new dates and compare that to what you have already paid).

I would also ask FC for a breakdown of the change fees ie

a) what's the fare difference
b) airline imposed change fees
c) FC change fees

All too often FC claim the change fees and charges are imposed by the airline when in fact it's what FC charge when they may have only had to pay a fraction of that had they booked direct through the airline.

You could even call the airline and ask about the fare rules/change fees however they will of course refer you back to the TA to make the actual changes.
