Hi
We have booked award seats with Etihad in J class from BNE-AUH-LHR next march. Our final destination is Faro in Portugal. I have just realised that we could have flown to Lisbon (or even Faro) with Etihad (I know, I know...:()

Does anyone have any idea if I can change our tickets without too much fuss and no more points? I'd love to still fly our original route, but just tag on the LHR-LIS sector...
Thanks in advance

You may be able to rebook if there is award availabilty to Portugal but I am thinking at a cost from USD150 ...

Yes -I'm thinking if there is a large fee, we'd be better just booking the LHR -LIS ourselves. However the advantage of having it on one ticket means if the AUH-LHR is late, Etihad have to get us on the next flight out to LIS at their cost. As it stands, we have to try and factor in enough time for contingency if the flight into LHR is late...
Rock -hard place:confused:

It makes more sense to pay $US150 and change you destination rather than purchase another ticket from LHR which won't save you much but instead make your journey longer.

Journey will be the same. The route is still BNE-AUH-LHR-LIS with Etihad.

The hard product on EY 787 and the 380 is fantastic. The best or very close to it!!!

It will cost $175 USD
$150 for the first pax and $25 for each additional pax on the itinerary.

Really? I recently asked to change route for two pax on the same itinerary and was quoted $US300 by the AA SYD call centre.

Lucky I didn't go ahead with it.
Now I think I'll call them again...

I recently did this. Definitely challenge the agent or call back

[h=2]American AAdvantage[/h]American doesn’t charge any fees to change award tickets as long as the origin and destination and award type remains the same. You can change the routing, dates, times, airlines, etc.
If you do change the origin, destination, or award type (like switching from a standard award to a saver award, downgrading from a business class award to economy award, etc.), the change fee is the same as it would be to redeposit — $150 for the first passenger and $25 for each additional passenger on the same record.
In order to redeposit an AAdvantage award ticket, American charges $150 for the first passenger, and $25 for each additional passenger on the same record locator. In other words, if you need to redeposit an award ticket and have three people on the same record locator, you’d pay a total of $200 in cancellation fees, which is quite reasonable.
The policy for making a change from one award type to another is that you must reinstate the award ticket, which will cost $150 (though this generally isn’t charged if you’re upgrading the class of service).

You are correct ... if more than one PAX on the one booking then it's $150 for the first & $25 for each subsequent PAX.

Sometimes one may have more than one booking - then the $$$ can hit ...

Can i do one booking but use points from 2 aadvantage accounts to buy 2 tickets ? Due to yearly limits isnt that what most of us need to do ?
If so how do you use your wifes points when on the phone to the AA call centre ?

thanks

I just book using her account and as she is named as a passenger I've never had any issues with it or modifying the booking.

Ive used husband and sons points to make different bookings and in each case the credit card used needed to be in the account holder's name. That is on the internet.

Interesting that has never applied to my AA award bookings?
Do you call the Australian number that takes you to the call center in Fiji?

I've done all three - internet, Fiji and US direct. I think when I called US it was on my account so easy to do. Internet needed account holders credit card to pay the tax but I could purchase points in any account using my card. So basically I could spend thousands of $ buying points on my card in any account but the booking cost of say $6 had to use a card in the account holders name. And a refund over the phone I had to put to that account's credit card.

Hubby and I are on separate bookings, so I'm guessing $150 per person. I booked via the call centre (sydney number, but it put me through to Fiji)

Yep it will be $150 each I'm afraid

Yeah -its not worth the hassle. I'll book us a separate ticket from LGW to FAO (as flying to LIS still involves a 2 1/2 hour road trip). Too risky trying the 15-50 BA flight from LGW , so it looks like Easy Jet :(
