I was in Vegas recently and needed to change some AUD to USD. I could have used the atm but needed more than the maximum daily withdrawal limit.

Official bank rate was 0.72 and I thought if I can get with 5% I would take it. I'm a realistic person.

There are not many money changers in Vegas and after reading some reviews on the web I decided to try the casinos.

First one was Caesars. Quoted 0.51. Almost had a heart attract. The girl at the cage suggested that I go to travelex. I decided to try more casinos as they may offer better rates. I then tried Paris,Bally's, flamingos, Cromwell. The rates varies between 0.51 and 0.61. Not prepared to lose 15% so I decided to keep the cash in AUD in my pocket!

Vegas is all about clipping the customer and the upsell. Once you accept and understand that it's easy (and fun).

Yep even the smartest on the planet get 'stung' in Vegas - only solutions I have ever found is bring cash with you or pay the wickedly high ATM fees - what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas - reference to your cash that is!

You need to find the bank ATMs, which sadly, there are hardly any on the strip, only casino run ATMs.

There are plenty off strip though if you have access to them.
