Anyone done this before? No F from Aus so I was resigned to J, but wondering if its possible to upgrade on sector after already booking. I recall reading somewhere, maybe terms and conditions, mixed-class has to be over the phone so no 15% discount...

I have managed to do this with a ticket issued by a TA (exCMB) when I wanted to make a date change and there was no Y availability.

YMMV

You gave me hope and I emailed them (couldn't find Aus phone number). 48 hours of silence...

just type Brisbane Malaysia airlines - phone no comes up easy, does every other capital city they have an office in main capital cities

In case anyone is interested it is possible. Got two different quotes, 45k or 76.5k for KUL-CDG, upgrading J to F. Assuming it's the larger. Now the real question, is it worth 76k points?

Hmmm hmmm

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

from what I have read about MH F and J differences no - the amuse bouches + better wine seems to be the only difference. meal before arrival is often nearly identical

KUL-CDG is on the 380, I've not been in J on theirs but I have done F. The champers is better and the food is definitely better (seen the menus) with caviar etc. decent sleeper seats but probably depends what 76k points is worth to you, and how often you will fly F in the future.

MH J is angled-flat, I can assume that MH F is fully flat?

Is that per sector or return, too?

It is per sector. MH F is pretty pricey, if they did F from SYD, for a whole trip including 15% online discount I think it would work out to be around 125k.

Pros and cons for the points equation... 76k is another trip in J on MH or almost J in SQ. But then why accumulate points if you don't spend them. Life is pretty tough... <sarcasm>

MH F can be great or outstanding

Have done twice with one if each if the outcomes above
Champs is Dom haven't been in new lounge as was being renovated in Kul in January.
Availability on MH is almost always better than SQ saver fares for F
so depending on your dates and travel times give MH a go
First world problem to have
