I'm currently in Nicaragua - Central America. I got here by doing an SC run from LA on an instant upgrade fare. It was booked using my 28 degrees MC.

My return date is at the end of January where I fly MGA-MIA-DFW-SEA. I want to change it to mid February, but here's the problem...

I rang AA and talked to someone who confirmed there was availability in the fare buckets on the date I wanted. But she said it was $150 change fee per person(there's 2 of us). Firstly is this normal? I can't remember seeing a change fee in the fare conditions.

But more importantly is I lost my credit card(I have absolutely no idea where) so I had to cancel it. The woman said I can use another credit card but it has to be a US card, is this right?

Any help would be very appreciated

$150 is the standard change fee for most of these types of fares.

It is noted in the fare rules which are always available to read and understand during the booking process on AA.com - I have never seen the $150 change fee not noted for AA "instant upgrade", "first special" or "business special" fares.

It seems it's a case of YMMV as far as agents requiring a card from specific countries.

Can you change the booking online?

I first tried to change it online but it says that as it has a international leg to central America I have to call AA.

I don't mind the fee cause that's par the course but I'm worried they're not gonna like it if I try force an Aussie card.

Ahhh that's an idea. There is an AA office in Managua. Can I make the changes on the phone without paying for it straight away do you think?

No worries, thanks for your help serfty! If anyone else has had experience with this I'd love to hear it.

I had avery recent experience of paying by phone with an Aussie card to the US AAdvantage number. I have used it before to pay for award taxes, etc but this time the telephone assistant couldn't do it. I rang back and a supervisor solved the problem and hit me with a telephone Ticketing fee ($80).

I might end up using a US friends CC, I'm just probably being over cautious but I want it to work more than break new ground.

I understand that if you have status on AA they will accept Australian credit cards , in my experience. It is very important to tell the operator, that when they come to the "zip code" field, that they put in your correct postcode of the card you are using , with a preceding zero, hence , making it a 5 digit zip code. I have also heard of people putting in CA in the state field.

If I use an Australian credit card it seems to work fine over the phone and online, however if I use a Debit visa it just doesn't play ball. I've ended up giving them the address of my grandfather's house in the UK over the phone or even when I've booked online and then it's come through just fine...very odd.

I had to change 2 KUPP bookings in separate pnrs when SO forgot about an extra day he had to work before we left & in both cases was charged a change fee of USD150.00 per person per pnr.

I did have another drama with paying for a KUPP fare when the payment wouldn't go through despite successfully ticketing 3 others pnrs with the same credit card. We were in LAX at the time so I just went up to the First Class checkin counters at Terminal 4 & handed the credit card over & they charged the card & issued the tickets on the spot.

Thanks oz

Does that mean that you changed it over the phone and because you couldn't pay for it you then went into LAX?
Was it a AUS credit card or US based one?

It would be that after making several bookings over the internet the more recentone did not ticket. Sice ObB was in LAX they were able to fix that one up there and then at the airport using the very same Oz CC.

Obviously, the other internet bookings ticketed quite Ok with the Oz Credit Card.
