If I book a one-way award (SYD-HKG_ZRH say) as soon as the booking window opens, can I change this to a return booking once my return date opens and only pay the additional miles required for a return journey?

Thanks in advance - I'm new to Asia Miles and find the rules of their program to be very confusing (compared to SQ which I use a lot).

Haven't tried this myself but the posts I have read imply that you must book the second leg as a one way and post flying request MPC "give you back" the return trip discount. Try the CX/MPC threads on FT.

Just wandering
Fred

Edit: The above assumes you had already booked the initial one way.

Well I am concerned that if I wait until I can book the return journey then the award seats on the outbound journey will already be taken by someone else.

BTW 2 posters on Flyertalk have confirmed Fred's response - making it very complicated IMO - but then I'm a newby to AsiaMiles - I usually use SQ with miles transferred from AmEx but thought CX would be good to have as an alternate when SQ does not suit my needs (e.g. going to SYD-YVR). Also, since recent changes CX generally charges fewer miles than SQ (but SQ no longer charges fuel surcharges). Thanks to another post on this forum there is a very good explanation of how the various award types and rules work.
