Passengers in Singapore’s Changi Airport can look forward to seamless boarding of flights with just a barcoded ticket from April of this year. Following successful trials with Lufthansa, the airline reported reduced boarding time and the on-time departure of its aircraft. According to Changi Airport, the new system allows passengers to board planes up to 50 percent faster by simply scanning a barcode at boarding gates. Now a fully-loaded A380 aircraft with a passenger load of 500 can be completed in 15 minutes, from about 30 minutes previously.

Makes sense, given you already have to check through security to enter gate area, and still have a final door check to complete.

From the thread title I had visions of pax attempting to move the aerobridge into place themselves!

Agree it makes sense - waste of resources having someone standing there to scan your BP - train stations have automatic gates cant see why planes cant.
