change card type (co-branded)

Is it possible to change an amex card type to and from a co-branded (eg: Qantas) card?

From my experience when I wanted to change from Amex Gold to Amex Platinum card, I was told that I had to do a new application and to select in the application that I wanted my Gold card closed when my Platinum card was opened.

So I don't like your chances of an easy change from normal Amex to Qantas Amex cards. I guess you will need to do a new application.
