My partner and I are planning to travel SYD-NRT in Jan QF21 and return on QF22. I am considering booking economy and hope to use points to upgrade to J for both of us. Other slightly more expensive option is to book PE and use points for upgrade to J.
I am interested in thoughts as to our chances of upgrading to J from economy using points as opposed to upgrading to J from PE using points. Unfortunately do not have sufficient points to do as JASA, but do have sufficient to apply for upgrades for both.
Obviously would prefer to save the $1600 dollars I would have to pay to book PE seats however not a big fan of getting stuck in Economy for o/nite flights.
E/Flyer shows plenty of seats available, however on the QF site they are saying less than 5 seats available.
I am Platinum and my partner is Bronze. Not sure if being Platinum will assist.
Thanks in advance

Just remember you need to be on a Y flexi to be able to opt for a points upgrade from Y. The cost of a Y flexi may be close to a W sale fare (which is upgradeable).

That could mean less than 5 seats available in that booking class for that price, not less than 5 in total.

Good point. Price difference is $400 per person when compared to PE sale fare.

You might want to consider PE with such a small price difference to Flexi-Y, so that you're guaranteed a more comfortable trip in the event the J upgrade doesn't come through.
