Certain Australian passport holders barred from entering UAE

If you are travelling on an Australian passport showing 'X' (indeterminate/intersex/unspecified) in the sex field you will not be permitted to enter the UAE. You can only enter UAE if you carry a passport bearing the sex specified as ‘F’ (female) or ‘M’ (male).

It's an offence to show sympathy or bias towards Qatar, or to object to the UAE Government's current policy in relation to Qatar. This includes social media, or any other written or verbal communication. Offenders can be imprisoned and subject to large fines.

Sex outside of marriage and homosexuality are illegal. Victims of sexual assault may face criminal prosecution rather than being considered the victim of a crime. Some sexual assault victims have been imprisoned after reporting an incident to local police or upon seeking medical assistance.

Difficult enough for some who wish or need to travel via the UAE when there are concerns for your safety or liberty but how sad it must be if you were born/still live in the UAE and are LGBTQI.

Not a simple 'spur of the moment' process to be recorded as 'x'. The Aust govt states passports with 'x' may not be readily accepted at any border given their rarity.

From the Aussie passport site:

Documentation required as evidence of your preferred sex
Surgery is not a prerequisite for a passport to be issued in your preferred sex.

You can provide one of the following documents to support your passport application:

• a gender recognition certificate issued by the Gender Reassignment Board, or
• a revised birth certificate showing the new sex issued by an RBDM, or
• a recognised details certificate, which records your new sex and current name, issued by an RBDM.

Alternatively, or if you are transitioning to another sex, you can obtain a statement from a registered medical practitioner or psychologist that you have had or are receiving appropriate clinical treatment for gender transition. The nature of the treatment does not have to be specified. This advice should be provided on the Declaration: sex/gender of passport applicant (B14) form (pdf).

They made a form for it? Used to be that you just needed a letter from the doctor with that info.
