Hi All,

I'm moving to Germany in the first week of April, and because it's due to a relocation, I have to use a paid ticket that the company will buy for me (otherwise I probably would use one of the many points options!).

I'd like to maximise my upgrade chances, at least to Dubai, so was after some advice on flight selection.

1 - Should I go via Melbourne or Sydney? Looking at EF, looks like there is more space on QF9 on the days I checked, though not sure if that is "typical".
2 - What day of the week would be best to secure an upgrade? I was thinking Tuesday/Wednesday have the best chance?
3- Am I better to just book on an EK flight and hope to see the EK love that so many aff'ers have been seeing?

Thanks!

Your first concern is whether the company paid ticket will be upgradable.

Yep, looks like it will be a saver fare, which I think should be upgradeable (though I can't remember how to tell the booking class on the new website - will need to work that out)...

Well, displays on the confirmation page which makes it easy. Booking would be in S which is upgradeable....

Are you planning to use points to upgrade or just expecting a free op-up?

Sorry, should have clarified - I was hoping to use points. Never received a free QF op-op in 4 years of plat, so not expecting one now!

Thought I'd bump this as I'm about to book for Wednesday next week, and need to try and decide which route to take.

Seat maps shows QF9 has as about 40 unallocated seats and QF1 has about 25.

Any thoughts on chances on either flight?

I guess QF9 would probably have the best chance, however economy seating is better on QF1 in case I don't get the upgrade...
