Just heard on the grapevine CX 170 PER-HKG has made an emergency landing in Bali following some sort of inflight engine explosion and fire. Nothing much more known at this stage.

Headlines on the more sensationalist media suggest the "plane caught fire mid flight". Stories in less sensationalist media suggest reports of sparks and flames coming from an engine, a reported engine failure and safe landing at DPS.

Cathay Pacific flight from Perth to Hong Kong catches fire mid-flight: report

A Cathay Pacific aircraft flying from Perth to Hong Kong reportedly caught fire mid-flight, forcing it to make an emergency landing in Bali.
A man is reported to have contacted ABC News saying his brother was on board the flight when there was a "loud bang and sparks and flames".
The cabin was then reported to have gone dark.
The man said about 15 minutes later the captain reported a problem with one of the engines.

The pilot diverted flight CX170 to Indonesia. The plane has landed safely.:)

'plane catches fire' gets more 'clicks'...and the media know it!! media, politicians, real estate agents, car sales people...these are a few of my 'favourite' BS artists

Also a story on news.com.au about a letter sent from CX pilot to management about safety concerns

Iirc another CX flight from Perth diverted to Philippines about a month ago, and no reason given
