Here is a Question for all you in the Know, I’m a QF WP and this year I’ve not spent a lot on flying as I’m using my FF Points, and you do not get status credits, I’m also a Centurion card holder and have just received my Cathay Pacific Diamond membership can I still get access to the First lounge in Syd, Mel when traveling QF if I no longer retain my WP status, if that makes sense. my WP ends in September

By this: Access to The Qantas Club lounges you do (CX MP Diamond gives you OWE status), provided you are flying OneWorld. I’ve allowed my WP membership to lapse too, by flying EK and VA, and I’ve been banking on that CX MP Diamond to fill the gap left by WP. I got my card today too. :)

Sure can! CX Diamond is oneworld Emerald, which is permitted entry to the QF First lounges per:

Access to The Qantas Club lounges

EDIT: beaten to the punch by Homer :)

Great Homer I do try to fly OW if i can but must admit the way AJ is running QF I may start to look other Airlines most often i fly First but the price on QF is just so high20k around the world OW is always good if you have the time.

Remember with your AMEX points you can credit them to SQ or EK or CX, etc, not just QF. I haven’t done it yet myself - I’ve got about 2 million sitting there (without paying taxes on the card ;)) - but I think I will start soon.

OneWorld levels were meant to make things easier, so I'll never understand why people can't work out an F lounge is also an Emerald lounge, especially with the logos on the doors normally. I have to reassure my dad he'll get entry each time he flies too (MPC Diamond).

I can't understand the confusion either. Although Dave Noble did cite a possible confusion with Domestic Business Lounges (although the word "Business" appears in the title and Business passengers can access it, it is a oneworld Emerald level lounge, not a Sapphire one).

The only difference between ow Emerald and QF WP in terms of First Lounge access is that WPs, in addition to oneworld marketed and operated flights, can gain access when flying:
  • Qantas marketed flights which are not operated by a oneworld airline (e.g. SYD-ICN on QF codeshare operated by OZ, or SYD-NAN on QF codeshare operated by FJ)
  • Jetstar marketed and / or operated flights
oneworld Emeralds must strictly be on oneworld marketed and operated flights only, although as with most "rules" we've heard some spotty anecdotes of people getting in otherwise.

With your main question answered can you please advise if the CX Diamond Membership is for the life of the Amex or for one year?

That would be best asked in the Centurion 2011 thread, but appears (from my HKG source) to be for 1 year.

Like all Centurion benefits there reviewed every year,I.E when they had plat SPG then after 2 years it went to Gold, so I will have to wait and see, it would be good if it was ongoing as I’m doing a lot less flying to keep my WP we will see.:D

I guess for you folk with the Black Amex you'd fly J or F anyway... not sure how much of a benefit it is for you =)

I know some real tight coughs with Centurion... fly economy and upgrade most of the time, or rely on op-ups. :p

MPC treat their Diamond members very well, and the Centurion I know in Hong Kong is a lifetime member too, so he's use to being treated very well on Cathay Pacific, thus he doesn't need to splash out on fares when they're expensive, as he'll be top of the op-up list.

Interestingly enough though, during the Iceland volcano eruption last year, Cathay Pacific chose to do the honourable thing and fly schoolkids back to be with their parents (I think it was the start of the summer holidays) instead of elite members, and he actually got better service from Qantas to get home, despite being booked on Cathay.

But still, MPC Diamond members are treated very well by Cathay! Enough to be able to afford to be cheap.

Yes, only for the primary card member and only for 12 months (though most of the other memberships also have expiry dates and are usually, but not always, just extended).

Hi homer

Thankyou for you prompt reply. So i take it is like the avis membership and not like the Qantas club membership where you can choose. Would this be correct.

Thankyou

Yep. They make it clear on the invitation/application that it is for the primary cardholder only.
