Preparing to fly home from MEL yesterday, I discovered my wheelie bag carry on's zip had broken. The metal of the zip for the main part of the bag has completely come away from any fabric or stitching in the corner.

The bag is a Paklite, and I like it because it has a laptop pocket in the main section, and that section opens from top to bottom, rather than from one side (&the other side is an edge). Really easy to pull out the laptop at security without feeling like I'm unpacking or completely opening the bag.

We fly to Thailand on Thurs.

I went to Myer and DJs in BNE city today; there is one Paklite at DJs that is similar, top opening, but doesn't quite look as businessy. Nothing really suitable in Myer. That's all I had time for. If I replace this bag, I will have to go out in the Boxing day sales, or just go back to my old wheelie that only opens on one side.

I'm leaning toward not replacing it in a hurry, rather than getting a "whatever" bag on Boxing day.

Amy rcommemdations? I want a top opening bag, with a laptop section, two (not four) wheels. Those are the highest priorities.

I hate bag failure....always travel with Tumi.

Can you limp to BKK then ditch? Cheaper there?

Possibly. Of course, it's now a section of around 3" in one corner that's loose. Ugh. BKK is at the end of our trip, but might be able to get thriugh and see what I can find there to replace it. Ahh, #firstworldproblems.

Yes thankfully. If that's the biggest problem you're doing just fine!!

I have bought 'whatever' bags in the past and have regretted them. Perhaps a cheapie to get you through this trip and then take the time to find one that works for you. Otherwise the expensive bag becomes one that just gets you through this trip and you replace it anyway.

Enjoy the trip.
