Mrs SFSC and I are travelling domestic on QF82 ADL-SYD early next month. We are planning to buy some Bratwurst or similar at the Adelaide Central Market to take home with us in our checked luggage. I have travelled domestic on international flights before but have not carried food.

Are the dogs likely to get excited at the carousel? And if they do will it be alright because the food originated here?

Edited to add: Sorry about the typo in the heading!

What can't I take into Australia? - DAFF

An important note for domestic passengers travelling on international flights:
If you’re carrying food or other items subject to quarantine, you must show the quarantine officer a receipt or other document proving that the product is of Australian origin. If you cannot show proof, your goods will be seized. Please note that some states prohibit the entry of fresh fruit from other parts of Australia.

I have frequently bought similar products from Queen Victoria Market and carried them home without experiencing any problems.

And did you carry them through customs/quarantine at an Australian international airport as the OP is wanting to do?

No,the items were in checked luggage, as SFCS is planning to do.
Makes no difference if in checked or carry-on luggage when using the domestic leg of an international flight. You still have to go through customs/quarantine with you bags (checked and carry-on).

My question was whether or not your flight was a domestic sector of an international flight and hence you had to use the international terminal and hence subject to customs/quarantine checks. There would be no issue is on a regular domestic flight.

Sorry, I missed the point of your question the first time. Yes, I have done it as a domestic leg of an international flight without any problems as I wasn't bringing anything into Australia.

A follow-up post to advise how we got on.

Purchased some metwurst at the Adelaide city market last Tuesday. Got a receipt but noted that the outside of the metwursts had the details of the company that processed them, including the South Australian address and postcode.

Flew ADL-SYD on Wednesday. Only problem was about 1 hour delay before any baggage appeared on the carousel. I joked to Mrs SFSC that the delay was probably caused by the dogs downstairs having to be replaced because of olfactory overload :D . Didn't see any dogs upstairs and when the luggage eventually arrived we went straight out through the Domestic channel.

Noticed that the luggage label had "Domestic" printed across it at about the place the label bends around the handle (had never noticed it before).
