I have a Qantas flight on a Swiss ticket (QF flight number). I can see the flight in Manage my booking. I can choose a seat on the Qantas leg, but at the end of the process I get an error message and my choice doesn't stick. Is this a known problem?

I don't know the exact details but I'm fairly sure this is consistent across all other carriers that are booked via qantas as they have different booking systems that aren't fully integrated with the qantas system, have never been able to select a seat on any flights that have been flown by airlines other than qantas in the past

I know I can't reserve seats on the Swiss flights via the Qantas website - but I wanted to reserve on the Qantas leg of the journey. Odd that this doesn't work.

I believe that you should be able to select seats for Qantas operated and marketed flights (unless its a Dash 8) but not for the Swiss flight. You may be able to do that through the Swiss website. What is the Qantas flight number/s?

It is QF107 (Syd->JFK). It is a Qantas operated flight, with a QF number on my ticket. However, my ticket is issued (marketed?) by Swiss.

I see.. Have you tried allocating your seat on the Swiss website?

It sounds liek you may have the same issue. Its likely that you are using a non-QF booking reference to view the booking and requesting seating assignment. While the non-QF booking reference can retrieve the booking and presents the option to seat assignments, it does not allow the seat allocation process to complete. Call Qantas and ask them for the Qantas booking reference number and use that to manage the QF flights in the booking.

If you're going to the trouble of calling Qantas, wouldn't you just ask them to allocate the seat?

Well that might be the case for a single seat selection situation. But in my case I will likely want to change my current selection for my return flight if/when the seat map opens up at T-80, and as I will be in Eastern Europe at that time, calling Qantas a second time to make a seat selection for the return journey may not be as simple/convenient as being able to change it as many times as I like on-line.

Also not that in my case seat 43C was available (and selected for my by the very helpful QF reservations agent), but I am hoping the 43D or G may become available later and if it does (and I have ExpertFlyer seat alerts pending for them) then I would like to be able to select it on-line and not have to phone and ask an agent to do it for me.

Well I did call Qantas (in the US). They didn't know why I couldn't see or change my seat allocation, but they could see it (and apparently change it - though I didn't ask them to).
