When does an award ticket have to be cancelled by to get points back?

It's actually right up to when travel starts:

Requests to cancel a Classic Flight Reward ticket (where permitted) and re-credit points may be submitted prior to the commencement of the first flight in your booking and will incur a Cancellation Refund FeeThis will open a new tab or window in your browser. in points. Only points that would not have expired will be re-credited.

I cancelled one pax in an award booking over 3 weeks ago, so it needed to be done by the call centre. No sign of the points or taxes back yet. I'm not sure if this is normal.
