Ok was on hold with qantas for over an hour, will see if i can get an answer here before i try again.
i booked two award flight under one booking last month with qantas on its partner AA. One for MIA to Vegas and the other from NOLA to MIA. I no longer need the NOLA to Mia flight as my travel plans have changed, i spoke to someone at qantas last week about it and they said i am best off because i cant cancel just one flight but only the whole booking that i should just cancel the booking and re-book that one flight i need. I hung up from her and went to do it. Then i saw that there were no economy award seats left for the MIA - Vegas flight but only first class.
My question is, because i dont want to lose the ticket i already have for that flight, if i cancel it, is that ticket going to go back into the system so i can re-book it as an economy award ticket via qantas? Really i just dont want to cancel it and the find i cant rebook that seat as an award ticket on qantas. i cop a 5,000 point penalty for cancelling the booking anyway. That flight is only 12,000 point so in reality if i cant do the cancelation and keep my current booking and just skip that flight (NOLA to MIA) its only at a cost of an extra 7,000 points as ill be losing 5,000 of the 12,000 anyway as a fee from doing the cancellation and then re-booking the one flight (MIA - Vegas)
