Cancellation risk

IRROPS question: Do QF & JQ give priority to operating routes where re-booking passengers might be difficulty or result in long delays? My scenario might make the question clearer:

I'm booked DRW-HKG on a JQ flight that departs at 0600 (plus bundle, so no refund). I've need to attend an important meeting in Sydney the day before. I can fly SYD-DRW on QF at 1940-2350 or on JQ 2010-0020. Connection time is ~6hrs which is fine. These would be separate PRN's so neither QF or JQ would guarantee connection.

What if the SYD-DRW service is cancelled - there are no alternatives to make the DRW-HKG departure. Given the limited services to DRW would QF or JQ try harder to operate that service and perhaps sacrifice a service in the triangle where re-booking is easier?

What are the odds the service will operate? Is it worth the risk of missing a long planned family holiday?

I think you should be okay on either service, though QF may be a slightly safer bet. I don't think these flights are reguarly cancelled, and in fact I imagine they would try to operate the service as the planes are needed in DRW for the redeye return flights.

That was my thinking too. I also expect QF would be less likely to cancel a service than JQ.
