Hi all

Have a weeks stay coming up at QT Canberra with a bunch of work colleagues.

Looking for restaurant recommendations (closer to QT the better, walking distance preferred).

Also looking for good breakfast/coffee cafe places close to QT as well.

A couple of people have recommended;

- Rebel Rebel (for dinner)
- Mocan & Green Grout (for brunch)

So happy to hear what AFF ACT people think of those too!

Money no object? Try Raku - 15 minute walk from the QT.

There's plenty within an easy walk of QT, you're spoiled for choice.

Such and Such took out best new restaurant for NSW and ACT this year which is an achievement for a Canberra restaurant. And I always go to timewarp Italian Mamas Trattoria. It probably hasn't changed since 1975.

In the Sydney Building there is a variety of stalls.

Verity Lane Market - A place for those memorable moments.

Verity Lane Market takes its name from Verity Hewitt who opened Canberra’s first bookshop in 1938 in the heritage-listed Sydney Building. Based on Ospedale Degli Innocenti in Florence, the Sydney Building was designed by John Sulman to be the oldest commercial building in central Canberra.

Pick a cuisine and you probably find it in Civic, if you go up to Braddon, Mort and Lonsdale streets, there is a wide variety including a superb Afghani place.

The area around the uni also has many eating places.

Near your hotel is a pizza place that gets good reviews. bicicletta

I'm a former Canberran, but am still a Canberra regular. I like Roy Jr on London Circuit and a short stroll from your hotel for breakfast/coffee.

Raku has just been named the best Asian restaurant in Australia! Akiba, Lanternne Rooms, Italian and Sons are all excellent.

I have to admit to a bit of bias regarding Miss Vans, I spent many years working with his dad and a couple of his uncles.
I was however surprised to see him (Andrew) on an episode of Adam and Pohs Great Australian Bites making his version of Bah Mi, episode 8, Canberra.

Also featured was the kebab and pizza place at the Fyshwick fruit and veg markets that I recommended to @Ade some time ago

Akiba is absolutely fine but usually chaotic so make sure you get what you order. Wilma just a few seconds walk away much more inventive and consistent.

As others have said, just a few minutes walk into Civic and Braddon and (other than a Sunday) no end of good and varied cuisines. Tikka Take or Blu Ginger for Indian. Briscola for Italian. Verity Lane for casual variety.

White Rabbit or Molly are great venues at the most unexpected locations for evening drinks.

Is The Chairman and Yip still as good as it was? Haven't been there since pre-covid.

Until quite recently a friend of mine was the Chef de Cuisine at Capitol Bar and Grill in the QT itself and the food was amazing. It likely still is, although she is taking a break.

Depending on the size of your group and whether all are carnivorous....Back in the day, I used to love the Charcoal Grill in the Melbourne Building on London Cct: Charcoal Restaurant – Steak House

superb Afghani place

Can recommend "Bamiyan", the Afghani place in Braddon! OMG amazing food. I'm a vego, so I had a couple of vego dishes and they are to die for. Especially the "Nakod Biriyani", which is a chickpea biriyani was amazing! My mates who had the Lamb & Chicken skewers (mains) loved it as well.

Loved that Kebab place. Amazing Falafels, Zucchini balls, bakhlava & other vego treats. They make a really nice garlic/herb bread and they also see Hummus and other dips by the box. I go there once a week Oohh, also when you order the falafel/zucchini balls/meat *plates* you get freshly baked bread - I mean fresh, out of the oven, steam coming off them bread!

Grease Monkey for a burger with beers from Bentspoke for something casual. Bar Beiret for amazing Lebanese food.

Enjoyed a drink at Bar Rochford. They know their beers and wines there.

Sorry - very late to the party and too late for the OP's question - Chairman and Yip is no longer in the city (hasn't been for many years) and is part of the Realm precinct in Barton. It has two set menus with limited choices - one three course and one five (from memory) - haven't been for a few months but the food is still good.
