Canada on Velocity

Hi all, thanks for having me. I started points collecting approx 1.5 years ago to save up for my honeymoon to Canada in December 2027. I have been collecting both Qantas and Velocity, planning to use Qantas to fly over via Fiji airlines in Business, but TBD plans for returning home with velocity (have just found their points much easier to collect). Any suggestions? We will be leaving Montreal but know it will be easier to get a flight from Vancouver or San Fran back home to Sydney. Would love to do a leg in business if possible!

Welcome @assymetric_astronaut - unfortunately getting awards in business class using Velocity points will be extremely difficult, if not impossible. The options are UA or AC neither of which offer J awards (other at least almost never except close in). Others may be able to suggest alternatives. Further December being the start of the Christmas holiday season will make any award (QF or VA) even more difficult.

Have a great time in Canada on your honeymoon - enjoy Montreal, my home town.

Ah that is a bummer. Oh well, will enjoy not paying a cash fare anyway. Thank you for your response!

I flew into and out of north America for the World Cup and had a stash of both Qantas and Velocity points to get over and back in business or first. Velocity points were no use at all going over and coming home they only provided options about a week out with NH via HND. Was 150,000 points per person. Usually one seat, a couple of instances of two. Need to have YVR, SFO, and LAX as origin points. UA and AC had zero business availability at all for the whole 12 months leading into the flights. Not even the day before. Up until about a year ago there was reliable UA business seats released in the fortnight before flights. Not now. Qantas provided significantly more options both going over and coming home. Had choices of QF, FJ, EK. Occasionally even first class. Good luck.
