Hi Everyone, I couldn't find any up to date info on this topic.

Has anyone got any recent experience of successfully getting QF to confirm a classic award seat in F when none was showing in availability? One of many options for next years' jaunt is potentially going RTW, but if I can get away with only buying one ticket and doing the other on miles, it would be great. I'm looking at SYD-LAX-LAS in June 2012. When I search on qf.com it comes up straight away with First award being available, but when you click through you see that only the AA tag on is in F, and the long haul QF flight is in whY... Grr

Cheers

A "feature" of the QF system often it will turn up the domestic leg as F and the international as Y, speak to a operator they should be able to help.

A WP can call to request a first class award seat be released. This happens in a few seconds and may or may not be successful. It helps if you flight is showing low bookings in F such as F9 A9.

Of course, this comes with the 'assisted award' booking fee being tacked on.

I've always thought a particularly stupid feature of the Qantas search system is that someone searching for say MEL-LHR in J will be given options that include MEL-SYD in J and SYD-LHR in Y. There should be an option to remove all mixed itineraries.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks All. The combinations offered on QF site have been the topic of much chatter here and elsewhere, and I agree that it's misleading, and a bit stupid to offer them (and charge the FULL highest cabin rate)

Serfty - thanks. I will call up and chat to the lovely people on the platinum line and see if they can assist. The flights are showing F9 A9 at the moment, so fingers crossed for a successful call. Not bothered about assisted fee if I can get the seat I want.

Often wondered how many poor souls have been caught out by that one.....also the one where you want to book QF but they spit out J*.......or as more erudite members refer to it the "orange cancer"

I've only tried to have seats released once and it all went to plan. 2 J seats released on LAX-MEL instantly, I was quite impressed! This was about 10 months ahead, though.
