flying J with VA from jfk though to melb. cant upgrade the delta jfk - la portion even though it is a J ticket rest of the way through. are we still eligible to use the delta lounge at jfk even though we will technically be on an economy ticket with delta for that first leg? of coure the rest of the trip home is on VA but that first leg is the delta part of the ticket.

Someone else should be able to confirm, but I believe you would have access based on your same-day international business class flight on a Delta partner airline?

(If you have Velocity Gold or Platinum status, that would also entitle you to Delta lounge access.)

Last I traveled, international premium cabins (first, business) that are not Delta One did not have lounge access. We gained access using Amex Plat Charge - Each pax must be a cardholder (supplementary cardholders qualify), but guests without a card are charged a fee.

We are flying Delta in F from LAX to SJO and we will not have access based on class of travel.

Edit: or as Mattg said, status (SkyTeam Elite Plus) will get you in as well, under the same day international travel in any cabin rule, as long as you have your FF card and international itinerary.

How did you go @traceyy? Your experience is really helpful for everyone else :)
no trouble getting into the lounge at all the staff were all extremely nice and very welcoming without question of us as virgin guests. we flew on the 24th from jfk so yes missed xmas, the staff on the flight were amazing however we were so excited to see qantas staff coming off an incoming flight decked out to the nines in xmas attire and jingle hats and virgin didnt so much as have one piece of tinsel in the plane let alone santa hats on the staff lol, however we are extremely grateful that these lovely people give their xmas up to make sure we got home safely and were well served along the way.

That is lovely how you appreciated the staff! My partner lucked out to not work 24/25/26 as cabin crew, but flew today and was excited to be part of holiday traveler's plans. He's in Hong Kong today, and home for NYE (we are lucky), but it is so nice to see anyone appreciate those who give up their family holidays to work and serve others.
Happy 2020 to everyone enjoying travel, and to all those serving as crew.

Yes, anyone who works shift, or public holidays (and I mean every vocation) is special indeed. I love your kind observation @traceyy and I think your post is a reflection of many grateful passengers. Bummer that Virgin didn't ham it up this year, I've heard they have really embraced the holiday spirit in Christmas past.

yes i thought they may also have done a xmas menu for dinner but no such luck, i did get a braised beef in soy and ginger however which was delicious anyhow. and of course ate too much food at the emirates lounge beforehand as well, the food there is really good.

Any chance you took a photo of the menu? We are flying in 2 weeks and I'd love to check it out!

PS - the Emirates Lounge at LAX is the most divine experience. I am planning a fabulous degustation there on the way home and I'll be wearing my stretchy pants I can tell you.😁
