Hi Everyone,

I am a member of QFF and Qantas Business Rewards. Just signed up to a Caltex Star Card thinking I can earn points by;

1. Using Woolworths Rewards card scanned on fuel purchase (I convert Woolworths Rewards to QFF points)
2. Sign up to Caltex Star Card to earn 10,000 sign up points and ongoing points for fuel purchases
3. Pay Star Card account via credit card and earn Qantas points through credit card

The problem I had on my first fuel purchase with Star Card is the attendant didn't allow me to use my Woolworths Rewards card for my fuel purchase if also using Star Card. Was wanting to know if anyone else out there have experienced the same thing recently or if it was just this particular attendant or petrol station advising this?

You will pay a credit charge surcharge if you do this.
and you wont get any woolworths reward discount if you to pay with the Starcard

all of this is detailed in their conditions somewhere. I know because I had this crazy idea once also.

Not all Caltex stores accept the Woolworths rewards card

and not all Caltex stores dont charge extra for Amex as I flipping found out tonight!
"oh traffics no good that way, I will go this way theres another Caltex woolworths over there"

When using a Motorpass at Caltex I could swipe my Myer One card. Couldn't do that when I used the Caltex card.

Sounds like the same exclusions have carried over.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, another member has confirmed they also do this and you can swipe Woolworths rewards card when paying by star card.

As pointed out there is a bit of variation from place to place. Just like some (mainly BPs) charge a surcharge for using Motorpass.

I use a Caltex Starcard - none of the service stations I use permit me to use Myer/ Woolworth etc cards whilst using my Starcard.

I couldn't work out how to pay by credit card at all, so ended up doing a bank transfer, which severely limits the value. I wouldn't mind a surcharge if I could use AMEX to pay the statement, less so if only Visa/MC.

As for double dipping, was well aware of the limitations, but believe the Starcard does offer discounts on fuel, higher on premium and lower on standard fuels. For what it's worth!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm assuming you are meaning that your experience isn't universal. If so, I would agree. We recently took advantage of the QANTAS/Ultimate AMEX offer and were surprised and delighted that not only did the petrol station (Ulladulla, NSW) take AMEX but there were also no fees AND we could take advantage of the discount.

Coincidentally, I went to the local bottle shop the other day and they take AMEX too. I asked if there is a loading and the owner said no. He collects about 2 million points a year with multiple free flights when he buys his stock so doesn't believe it's justified. :)

So - I am guessing we are going to have to check everywhere we go now.

Onto the original question - I came to it because I was considering the Star Card too. I'm grateful for the extra distinctions you have all had.

FYI, there is an interesting article in the SMH, if you have access

I received my first Star Card invoice today. I called to check and by default they setup your account to be paid via a bank account, but have changed to be paid by AMEX (they charge 2.2% surcharge). If the fuel station I use allows me to scan my rewards card, in addition to the points earned on Star Card account and then on my credit card I can justify the charge.

Hi All

StarCard holders who are members of Qantas Business Rewards (i.e. are businesses) can link their StarCard account to earn Qantas Points, see https://www.qantasbusinessrewards.com/earn-points/caltex

Doesn't look like individuals who hold a card through their novated lease or otherwise are able to directly earn under Frequent Flyer....

But looks like if you are a QBR member you can should definitely earn qantas points direct on your starcard account!
