Hi,

I called QF to get two bookings (seperate passengers on the same flight) linked. All was good and they said it was done.

However if I log in (a day after) to either of the bookings, they still are seperate. Is this normal? I mainly wanted to get them linked to select seating next to each other.

How long should it be after, and what should I be seeing if it is linked properly? Should I be calling back?.

regards,

Paul C

They are still separate bookings, hover linked in a system you can't see.

If you want to seat togather remind them at checking

An insider will no doubt add weight here

Check-in staff will be able to 'link' them up for you if not 'linked' at all. Otherwise generally when doing it via the call centre, they just put a note in the booking or they add a "GK" segment to the booking (like information only).

Thanks QFCSA.

What has probably been done is that each booking would have had a "TCP"* indicating the other applied.

This still does not help with seat selection as you need to select separatly.

This can cause issues if one passenger has a higher status than the other; see here:
* Industry term. Stands for "TO COMPLETE PARTY"

I've done this a number of times, and they dont "link" but both have a note applied to the reservation. It is really only useful at checkin (manually) or if there is a major snafu they're less likely to move one of you to a new flight and not the other as when they go to move you it tells them you have a travelling companion (ie the "note").

Sadly you still have to checkin seperately online and hope to be able to select adjacent seats. It means be organised online ASAP after T-80hrs, or get to the airport early and use the checkin machines.

For what it is worth I called back and checked to see if it was "linked", and they said yes but as people have mentioned not actually joined, so had to select seats at checkin (was a qantas link flight so no preselection).

Didn't bother to OLCI, and got to airport, and checkin agent said nothing was linked, and was not happy but ended up (after quite a bit of work) to check our bags through to the next flight. Turned out I had got Opuped MEL->ADL (but my dad hadn't), but it was a 734 anyway so not much was gained.....

My run of luck with "linking" bookings on QF has been mixed.

Although I haven't done it for different pax on the same flights, I've joined a few ROK-BNE with BNE-SYD. Each time it seems to work out differently. Sometimes there is no evidence of them being linked and sometimes the other flights appear in the same PNR.

I have found, however, that everytime I do it I can't checkin online (even though I've been told I should be able to), can't use the quick-check machines and if I check in at the counter, unless I specifically tell the agent I'm connecting (and they manually seach for the connecting flight), it doesn't show. I've had a few agents clearly daydreaming and not listening when I tell them and end up with a bag tagged to BNE and one boarding pass.

Maybe they have a better run of luck when it comes to different pax?

One thing I have done to double check for the TCP'ing is to call; quote one PNR and ask for the PNR of the "linked" booking.

I linked my domestic booking with another booking (2 people). We were on the same flights. Someone else linked their booking with the other booking (the 2 people one), and they were only on the return flight.

I pre-allocated my seats.

Checked in via Quickcheck. All tickets printed at once. Seats were all together for both journeys.

Changing my seating online ~24 hours before the return flight had some real oddities. Basically the other 3 pax were "shadows" of my booking and moved with me. Seemed very strange as they weren't indicated as my travelling companions, but rather just taken seats, and as I moved the cabin seating allocation was being shuffled around.

I've been able to do OLCI with TCP'd bookings no problem. All pax appear for checkin when you go into either of the bookings.

I have seen similar behaviour. The "linked" booking (especially for a no-status px), follows the seat allocation around as a shadow - but you can't see it - it shows as an available seat to you (as you can move yourself into it).

The lack of OLCI may depend on which booking you try. I have had both successful and unsuccessful attempts, but now believe it depends which way the link is done. I suspect you can OLCI from the PNR that has had others linked to it, but not from the one that got linked. If you get a failure via OLCI, try the other booking reference.
