Cabo San Lucas (SJD) to El Paso(ELP) American Airlines cheaper to buy with LAX

Hi All,
We want to get from Cabo to El Paso, and I checked using AA, a flight with one stop in Dallas was approx $380 pp. If I searched Cabo to LAX, i found there was a flight that had 2 stops, Dallas, then El Paso ( then finally LA) for $218pp, a big saving. Can I take this option and just end my journey in El Paso and not fly the last leg to LA ? Is it possible in cabo to have them check my luggage to El Paso only ?
Any other cheap suggestions on how to get to El Paso texas from Cabo in mexico appreciated. Depart 4th Aug

Later in the holiday I also need another flight depart 10th August DENVER to SFO (then 1 week stopover in SFO) then back To LAX.. I tried doing a multi trip thingy on AA website, but nothing special seemed to come up. Might be best to do this second part of trip as individual sectors given that I need the week stopover in SFO ??

The vagaries of airfares - direct flight can often be more popular as they save the passenger time.

Often those on business travel are happy to pay the higher fare as either 1) There's a time/cost benefit or 2) someone else is paying.

Like all good FFers I would take the indirect if possible!
