Hi All

Wondering if anyone knows ... i usually buy foriegn currency through the Amex website and pick it up at the post office. When I enter the Amex BPay code into the BPay website it says that they accept all cards as well as normal BPay methods. What I'm wondering is - will my bank (NAB in this case) treat the payment as a cash advance? Or is it just a BPay payment to a merchant?

Thanks!
RL

It's generally treated as a cash advance. I know Westpac charge it as cash

Woolworths EDR Credit card will treat as cash advance even if account is in credit for the amount

I've used a very popular card in this forum to buy fx in the past on the Amex website (most recently Nov 2013) and it's treated as purchase with points.

It will be treated as a purchase because the Biller accepts payments from CC's. NAB rewards points for BPAY payments too so you will also be earning points.

Thanks - that's what i suspected might be the case - from NAB's perspective it's just a BPAY payment.

Thanks for the responses all :)

Id make a quick call to confirm. I know many banks don't treat it that way

Don't call. Don't call. Try with a small value and report back. Then delete your post.

Can anyone advise what CBA Platinum treats it as? PM's fine

Been searching and reading a few cc conditions, as well as bpay site.

Pictures attached say they accept cc as a bpay choice.

Can a mod please delete my previous posting, I can't seem to delete it myself.

It's really hardly worth the trouble unless you consider a "point" to be worth more than the 3% or greater currency conversion fees.

Hi All,

A discrete online enquiry to NAB confirm that a cc payment to the BPay biller code that Amex's FX4You service use will indeed be treated as a normal purchase.

More points!
