Hi all,

It's been a few years since I was in DXB, and I was wondering if someone could help with a few questions?

My fiancée and I are looking to buy a few bottles of champagne for our wedding (the venue doesn't allow people to BYO but said they'd make an exception for the bridal table), and we were hoping to take advantage of her parents' upcoming trip.

Firstly - they're flying back DXB-SYD directly on Etihad - are there any HKG-esque issues with buying duty-free liquids then boarding flights to Australia?

Secondly, what are champagne prices (and range) like at DXB? When I was there last I remember spirits being very cheap, but can't remember the champagne prices.

We'd be looking at probably 3-4 bottles. Not set on one particular house, but options are Bollinger NV, Taittinger NV, Moet Grand Vintage, and depending on price, possibly a bottle of Mumm R.Lalou (my favorite) or Krug Grand cuvee.

Appreciate any advice. :)

Cheers

Hi Febs,

Dxb duty free is available at the airport. When you purchase liquid in store, they take your flight number and seal it in a bag.. They return the bag to you just prior to boarding the aircraft.

Liquid limits are 2.25L per passenger in Aus, so just need to respect this or pay the duty on the additional quantity.

Not sure if the prices are great vAlue but I found the following Dubai duty free prices online ( in $USD)
Dom perignon 2000 750ml. $158.33 ($249 in Aus)
Krug Grand cuvee 750ml $172.78 ($300 in Aus )

Couldn't see any other brands you mentioned.... Here's the link http://www.dubaidutyfree.com/Listings-11.pdf

Happy drinking...;)

Hi febs Taittinger NV is available for $47.50 a bottle on special at the moment from Vintage Cellars online
Took the opportunity to re-stock the cellar myself ;)
Good luck with the wedding !

Thanks, much appreciated! Princess Fiona - yes actually I saw that the other day but forgot. Great value!

Those prices do sound promising. :) Sorry I should have been clearer too - I meant DXB as in literally the airport - they're only transiting.

Thanks for the well-wishes!

Cheers

That's a brilliant link - thanks! Often I've had questions about DF prices around the world, and most cities are terrible at putting any pricing online. That list has a fair few spelling mistakes (and the limits for Australia are wrong)...but they're beating most countries in terms of availability of information!

Anyone transiting through DXB soon and be able to spare a few minutes to see what other champagnes (esp the Bollinger and R.Lalou) might be available? Would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
- Febs.
