Not wanting to hi-jack this thread but I'm interested to know what happens when you voluntarily buy the seat next to you for your own comfort.

I am taking three people MEL-AKL ( ttl 4 pax ) J was not available so I have booked 6 seats and paid the extra for seat selection so i have 2 row of 3 seats ( 1.5 seats per pax.)

Questions.

1/ Do I have to advise QF of my intentions.
2/ Do I check in six pax or 4. and further the head count on board wouldnt match checked in count ?
3/ If I check in 6 pax do I get milage on the extra two seats.
4/ Does the same hold true for award bookings.

Thanks in advance

Re: Was I right or wrong?

If only 4 people are flying you can only check in 4. As long as you have purchased those seats as extra's using the airlines extra seat function when booking you wont have a problem. If however you have booked them under the names of people who arent flying then be prepared for a whole world of trouble, as the airline still owns seats for unchecked in passengers and can reassign them to anyone on the day. There was a post here recently where a family who were travelling had booked and paid or a seat for someone and that person ended up not flying with them. The airline sold that seat to another passenger and there was all manner of upset.

You should also be able to avoid the "taxes" to some extent on the extra seats (ie. the pax movement charge will be paid on 4 seats, not all 6).

Thanks to all for the advise....will follow up with QF.

Serfty, Sorry, wasnt sure if I should start a new thread.

There is NO extra seat function for Qantas bookings on-line. The only way you can book an extra seat is via speaking to QF directly.

If you have booked it (and paid) already then QF will somehow have to try and sort it out.
