I need to get a few thousand more amex points in a hurry.
One thing I am considering, is to purchase a fully refundable ticket, to get the amex points.
I would then transfer the amex points out to the airline program, and finally request a refund of the original ticket.

Is there a problem with this plan?

At best, you will end up with a negative Amex points balance.

At worst, seeing as you have posted this intent in public, Amex will cancel your card, and reverse the transfer to the airline program. If you have already used the points for a ticket, the airline may cancel that.

What will actually happen - who knows. What sort of risk level do you want to take on?

Just buy the points for $25 per thousand or whatever it is.
