I am flying over to Montreal next April via Singapore & Tokyo. There are quite a variation of carriers available for this route.
As I am planning to fly business class and not being familiar with a lot of the airlines and what they offer i would love some advice from all the frequent flyers that spend alot of time in the air.
Friends have recommended Singapore, but what are JAL & Cathay like in comparison ?

I may not have sufficient points and will probably be just paying for the tix...

Thanks,

Roger. :D

I have not travelled on singapore for quite some time so cant comment on that.Out of BNE both JAL and CX use regional business configuration which is not much. From Asia to North America their products are both very good.
You mention points. If you are in the QFF program then JAL and CX are part of One World hence good for QFF points etc.
It will also depend on pricing. On OW a Circle Pacific or Round the World ticket may give you better value than a point to point return fare.

JL offer a good product, though now that SYD-NRT will have the modern seating config from 28 Oct, i'd pay the difference OOL-SYD and fly ex Sydney rather than ex Brisbane.

Good product, good price.

Are you specifically needing to go to Singapore and Tokyo? If so, the advice offered by some of the other posters may be a bit off the mark. If you need to include both in your itinerary, the most practical options (without lots of back tracking) are probably:

1. SQ to LAX and back, with stopovers in LAX & NRT on the way there and the pick up an add on fare there to YUL (you may want to open jaw with newark -EWR - if you're not wanting to stop at Tokyo the way back).
2. Star Alliance Circle Pacific - again catch with this is it will only get you to the west coast, and again you need add on (SQ or AC the preferred options to cross the pacific from NRT, and NZ on the way back - avoiding UA if at all possible)
3. Onewolrd Circle Pacific - QF to SIN, then JL to NRT (or CX via HKG), JL to ORD or JFK then AA to YUL, returning to BNE via ORD/LAX. Although, this fare is quite expensive if purchased in Australia (was jacked up several months ago).

Naturally pptions 2/3 will not work if u want to visit SIN/NRT on the way back as well.

BNE-SYD-SIN-NRT-LAX-BNE comes out at 20300 miles on great circle mapper so OW circle pacific ex australia in J is $9300 + taxes.
SYD-SIN-LAX and return on Singapore is $11,500.

To hit SIN, NRT and YUL in business class, I would consider using a OneWorld Circle Pacific plus an add-on AA return flight as follows:

BNE-SIN-NRT-DFW-LAX-BNE (21,963 miles, so under the magic 22,000 miles for a DCIR22).

Then DFW-YUL-DFW on AA.

Or just buy a DCIR26 and include it all on the one ticket.

This uses QF for BNE-SIN, the JL to NR and AA to DFW. AA again DFW-LAX and QF back to BNE.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
