Hi Guys,
Was wondering if anyone have had experiences with United/Continential/US airways in business class?

I would like to fly direct from LAX to Melbourne! If can help it don't want AIR NZ as too many stop over.

Is it easy to redeem points for these direct flights LAX- MEL

Must fly with Star alliance carriers ONLY in business class.

Thanks

Hi IMPACTZ,

Unfortunately, no Star Alliance carrier flies LAX-MEL direct. You will have to go via AKL with Air NZ or SYD with United. US Airways doesn't fly to Australia.

Air NZ doesn't fly any Business Class from AKL to MEL any more, so your best option will be with United.

As per above. I think UA sell it as one fight (like QF1 to LHR) but they do make a stop in SYD.

That is not true. NZ still operates a daily flight from AKL-MEL that has a business class cabin to connect with the LAX -AKL services. So NZ remains as a viable star alliance option.

UA (? used to) do a seasonal LAX-MEL (Australian summer time) but there's no other *A options currently than UA via SYD or NZ via AKL.

Only other alternatives would be a mix of *A carriers via Asia (longer flight times). eg. SQ via SIN or TG via BKK.

If you can get the SQ A340-500 to Singapore out of LAX direct you will be travelling in a 98 seat all business class plane where it is fine food and drink,a great movie or sleep opportunity and a lovely J lounge in Singapore.Because you live on the other side of OZ you would then back track to MEL in an A330.Yes it is a bit convoluted but vey nice if you drink the Bolly.

that is just too long of a haul! then sing mel!

Just want lax- mel

For all knw we can be in 1st class and having a young child hum might as well be in cattle class at times! sleeplessness and all in b/w

Sometimes it is best to forget alliances and just fly the best airline for the particular route. VA MEL-LAX is my pick.

If you must fly *A, (and if you are moving further afield than LAX), you could also consider MEL-SYD-SFO on UA; as well as SYD-Vancouver on AC....... I'm just putting it out there.

Oh look if it was up to me I'd stick with sing but seeing that they are going via sing and then melb too long of a haul even if it's biz class.

I just want to stick to Star alliance as I have points I want to redeem!

Thanks
I will def look at Virgin though how's their biz class from LA-MEL?

At least as good as any other on that route. Minor variances - some bits better, some bits worse. There's a few reviews around if you'd like to search.
