Just got back from Hawaii and wondering what to do regarding ff points and sc -the story goes......

We were booked on jetstar star class (4 people) departing Hnl to syd on monday 14th Jan. we got a call late Sunday night in Hnl saying we were bumped off that flight due to an equipment downgrade and would be delayed a day. Not the end of the world to stay another day in Hawaii but we really needed to get back to Sydney - I explained my son had broken his wrist snowboarding a few days earlier and he couldn't get a permanent cast on until we stopped flying ie: home to Sydney. Anyway jetstar put us on the Qantas flight in business class and we got home in time -all good. Apparently this had something to do with the jetstar flight that got cancelled on Saturday (HNL to MEL)and they had 2 extra days in Hawaii.

Anyway - my question is this. I booked Starclass Jetstar tickets but not the premium ones that get the ff points and sc - that would have cost us another $800 each way and not worth it in my opinion. So seeing as we were in Qantas Business class would we be entitled to ff points and sc. Is it worth asking the question or should I just put in claim and see what they say?

Just as a side note - Qantas flew a 767 syd to Hnl empty with technicians and parts over the weekend to try fix the jetstar flight that should have left Saturday. $$$$

You are only entitled to what you paid for and what you got was a step up from JQ star class. If you want to try it on then why not - I don't expect you to be successful and the karma gods might frown on you next time...

Probably depends on how it was ticketed. May well be on an ineligible fare.

I say don't put in a claim. You know you're not entitled to points and SCs. Some people here have enough trouble getting what they are entitled to and ineligible claims delay those people.

I imagine QF would decline any request for points/SC's as you weren't originally entitled to them.

Fair enough - thought I would ask the question. Frankly happy to have been put on the flight at all.
thanks all.

I would put in the claim as IMHO it's irrelevant what class you were on with JQ, the point is if you were booked on QF4 on a revenue earning fare bucket eg J class then you would be entitled to be credited for those points on your QF ff account.

Friends of mine were on a JQ starter fare BNE/TSV & their flight was cancelled. They didn't bother to pax extra for the bundle to earn points or SC, however they were booked into "L" class on a QF flight instead which earned them points.

In a disrupt situation JQ just look at how many disrupted pax they have eg 50 then make a booking for those 50 people with QF. They don't have time to look at who paid a plus bundle & who didn't so treat all pax the same. As QF & JQ are set up differently there is no equivalent way of rebooking starter pax without the plus bundle onto QF in a similar class as QF's points/SC earning policy is totally different.

Whilst I don't know specifically what class QF would book JQ Star Class pax into, I'm guessing it would be J class as that's probably the only J fare bucket left available to book given that it's a last minute reservation. Most airlines charge the original airline a full J class airfare in disrupt situations.

Lu-lu I'm sure everyone here on AFF would be keen to find out what transpires.

Getting put on a QF flight after paying for a JQ flight....

I would classify this an an OP-UP

I was once booked on JQ7 (non-earning Y fare) from MEL-SIN which was cancelled. They put me on QF5 instead.

Strangely they booked me on DJ for the MEL-SYD leg. So I had to collect my bag in SYD and check-in for QF5 there. The check-in lady asked me if I was a QFF. I said yes but ... (explaining the cancelled JQ flight) to which she responded "if you're flying with us you might as well collect points" and so I did.

Absolutely put in a claim! Jetstar would have paid qantas for your carriage with them, probably even chartered the plane. If they booked and paid for you in an eligible fare class then you should try and get points. They are, after all, completely separate airlines (or so they tell us). You did suffer the inconvenience of being told your flight was cancelled and you were going to have a delay. So the worst they can say is 'no'.

I would not be in this position as I would have handed my QFF card over to Qantas check-in staff at HNL and points and sC would already be in my account.

however if I was in your position I would definitely be putting in a claim. Jetstar offloaded you to another carrier, not your fault and no reason why you shouldn't earn the points.

Huge OP-UP.

Getting the points and SC's would be the icing on the cake for your holiday.

I would give it a go but if you get declined nothing lost

Put in the claim, you never know how they ticketed your QF flight. The basic story is that the Qantas flight is a separate ticket, paid by JQ, if you're eligible you should get the points.

I agree, put a claim in. Nothing lost. I too was bumped from JQ-QF (only from NTL-BNE though) and got full Y SC. Was awesome.

There is NO harm in asking....this of all forums and some people advising to NOT put in a claim?? Is the world ending???

One of the many aims of most members here is to maximise FF points...and this fits in nicely - good luck!

I took two knocks to the 'nads - no J SC's and it cost USD$150 to move to the back of the plane - when I was denied J SC's when I opted to change dates on a YUPP fare and only Y was available.

The reason? You earn SC's according to the class actually flown (except points upgrades).

On that basis, I'd say you're entitled.

Of course there'll be something buried somewhere that will contradict the reason given to me in their favour.
