If anyone going to nyc, I highly recommend 'xandu', just great fun. Whoopi Goldberg has a part but stayed within her role and didn't steal the limelight.

I also saw 'mama mia'. While I think whomever put the music around a story was very clever, I found the storyline not interesting. Just my opinion.

But 'xandu' just terrific.

I have heard good things about Xanadu as well.

I went to Spamalot and was in tears of laughter the whole time :)

I recommend "Avenue Q". Yes, it's a kinda puppet show, but it's clever and funny!

I've seen it several times, and taken quite a few visitors to see it, and it's never disappointed.

Thanks for the comments - enlightening.

I was planning on seeing Wicked. Does anyone have any views?

We tried to get into Wicked in July and booking three months out there were no seats available at all.

I've got tickets to Wicked in NYC in early Jan 09. Booked a couple of weeks ago and had no problems getting great seats. Still it was almost 6 months out I suppose.

Happy to report what it was like once I'm back but that might be too late for you!

Whilst not in NYC I did see Wicked in Melbourne a few weeks ago. Only one piece of advice. Do not see the show if you think it will be faithful to the book. The book is a very well written story with plenty of intrigue and modern themes.

The stage show has been Americanised and hence has a happy ending.......:(

It is visually stunning and the tunes are fun. It is no Les Mis, but is worth seeing as it is well performed and well written for the stage show.

Oh and the Westin in Melbourne is great.

We saw Wicked in NYC about 12 months ago.It was good but not great.

I enjoyed the sign outside spamalot that read something like 'cow, killer rabits, withches (too expensive), another description, can't remember, and french people. Made me laugh each time I saw it.

If you like the music of era of the four seasons, 'jersey boys' will fill the bill.

Really enjoyed 'Hairspray', lots of energy, good music.

If cirque dreams, jungle fantasy is still on, just great. Normally don't like circus acts but it got me in the first minute.
cheers
