British Airways retired the Boeing 757 from its fleet on Oct. 30, after 27 years of operations.

The twinjet entered service with the UK airline in February 1983 on shuttle services from London Heathrow. As well as operating with BA’s mainline Heathrow-based fleet, the 757 also flew from London Gatwick and with the airline’s regional divisions, and with its former charter arm, Caledonian Airways.

Does that mean they need the 767s back , please please please ;)

Speaking of the BA 763's, has anyone been on one recently? I used to get them on MEL-PER frequently, but my flight to PER last week wasn't one and the one today is on an INT config 763. Have they started to replace them slowly? Just not seen one in a while..

ZXF is on permanent duty flying to DRW since QF got a whiff that its OzBeachbabes favourite aircraft ;);):D:D

On a more serious note according to Qantas Source they are situation normal, although I note no record of ZXE flying in the last two days.

ahh thanks for that. Am about to board OGJ to MEL (looking at it from PER QP now).

And O/T, NGCI is great, but, no SMS confirming check-in. The new QP is also huge, and now more full of hi-viz than ever before :(

Good riddance to a nasty plane ;) not a fan of the 757 at all. Very happy they never got a leg up in Aus!

I just got off one SYD-PER.

Very tired old bird.

Flew a couple of 757's earlier in the year, if my memory serves me correctly because of the shorter wingspan they have a higher stall speed than many aircraft which is a bit off putting to me. I like lots of redundancy, low stall speeds, extra engines, well stocked bar!

But my flights this year on them were fine, AA flights and they presented well and did the job.

I always thought of the 757 as the aircraft with an identity crisis. Its a stretched 737 cabin with a 767 flight deck. It was as if some manager at Boeing dropped a whole bundle or aircraft plans and muddled them up when picking them up off the ground. The undercarriage just looks too tall for the body, but that is what happens when you put 767 engines under 737 wings and need to make sure they don't dig holes in the tarmac.

I believe they were made to replace 727 which was a well liked plane.
But a long single isle version of a widebody jet... nahhh... I'll pass.

They were a popular airplane all things considered with over 1000 made, interestingly they were popular with the 9/11 hijackers as well with two of the four aircraft that crashed being 757's.

The 757 and 767 have flight deck commonality. So only one type to learn in order to fly it enough to do the damage.

I thought it was only 757/767 because mostly UA/AA only had those models flighting in those areas.

I think they very carefully selected those aircraft types for the flight deck commonality. Plenty of 777, MD80, 737, A320 operated by AA/UA in the area at the time.
