Looking at booking J class saver BNE to ZRH. My wife will already be in Europe visiting son and daughter (who are living in Europe) for Christmas. They are spending Christmas in Strasbourg (France). Originally I was not going for the trip as we had a trip to see them in May this year but now having second thoughts. Have checked Singapore Airlines website and best availability seems to be Zurich for the dates that suit.

Departing Sunday 16 December BNE to SIN and SIN to ZRH is waitlisted for both flights but there is availability for both flights for standard bookings. Returning Thursday 27 December there is availability for both ZRH to SIN and SIN to BNE for J class saver bookings.

My alternate airport is Frankfurt and all flights are waitlisted for those dates with saver bookings with availability for standard bookings.

Are there any comments/suggestions on the likelihood of saver bookings that are waitlisted clearing if I book? Also is my best chance on the ZRH or FRA bookings?

I appreciate I have left it late for bookings around Christmas but thought worth a shot.

Strasbourg is a lovely place to do business and visit. It is also a convenient train ride to/from ZRH.

Normally I am optimistic about WL clearing. Given it is the Christmas period it complicates things but also increases the likelihood of J Saver clearing as less people in J.

I'd be thinking to put in multiple waitlist options in/around your preferred travel dates. If you have at least one sector confirmed on your sectors, then maybe you can make a better case to the call centre about clearing the other leg.

Also, if you are not planning a stopover which is possible by booking a return saver, then consider two separate bookings. Lock in your return trip with the current J Saver availability. Then widen your search on the flights into ZRH.

I can almost hear those cow bells ringing at ZRH for you.

Alby, thanks for the tips. I am still tossing up if I will do the trip (other issues such as work). Wife is doing the Europe trip (she is travelling with another son and her parents ) in economy (MH and KLM on the way there and AF and QF on the way back) so does not have a great sense of humour if I am able to book reward trip in J on SQ!

My preference would be to fly in and out of Zurich. Have not been to Zurich but from some web searches it seems to be alot more inviting than Frankfurt which I have been to before. Train trip to Strasbourg is about 3 hours with a change in Basel.

I agree Strasbourg is a lovely place. We had a week there in May 2012 and had a great time. As well as catching up with other son and daughter the wife is doing the Christmas markets in Holland, Belgium and Germany with her parents.

Another reason I chose Zurich is the stratergy that as it is mostly a business type flight (with the upper deck being all business) there may not be as many business people travelling around Christmas.

Those cow bells sound good.
