Bourdain RIP

Never heard of him.

Of what relevance is that comment to the issue at heart? Seriously.

Anyhow. I wasn't an avid follower of Bourdain, but got a sense from his shows that I did see that he had such a lust for travel and was so genuinely intrigued by the different cultures he came into contact with - he seemed like such a no frills, fascinating person.

The lesson is, if you don't feel great, talk to someone before doing something.
......
Matt

For some it's not that easy, 2 close relatives have gone this way, a niece was a very high achiever with everything that she needed available to her, including psychiatrists, close family support and more.

A nephew wasn't quite so fortunate through no fault of his own. He had just finished an apprenticeship as a builder, close friends that loved him, good future prospects and a hefty inheritance that he would receive one day. He was 32, niece was 17.

I know that for some, when they are feeling 'blue', they don't want to talk to anyone, and just want to be left alone, the more they get pressured to talk, the more they clam up, so 'talking' for some is not an option.

so 'talking' for some is not an option.

Sad but very true, unfortunately.

... And I have to say, it can be easy for people to say "just talk", but often people's problems are incredibly complex and when coupled with feelings of helplessness - and a society that is generally "too busy" it can be even tougher. And, tragically, of little use.

I do realise it's not that easy, many get through the tough times and some do not.

Every single person suffering needs a different approach, but the best way to start is to try talking and not just saying cheer up. I often think people who see the world through a depressed state are seeing reality, the rest of us are over confident.

I may sound blunt to some, but if there is no conversation at some point there is little chance of a good ending of its heading south.

The sooner something starts the better, some will subtly ask for help but those around don't pick up there is a problem lurking. Talk to your loved ones and talk often.

There are often others affected. In my world people commit suicude by jumping in front of trains, this can affect several families, the one directly impacted and one each for the two drivers plus the ambulance workers. I have seen the results first hand and needing to wash ones boots after is traumatic.

Yes it's not easy, yes some won't talk but yes some might.

R U OK ?

I'd say that last sentence sums it up quite well.
