I have never seen them in the US for under $300 USD (including tax). They seem pretty even across the world.

I'm sure they are cheaper in Atlanta compared do San Fran due to tax?
At least $6 by using bestbuy.com
I'm at $320US(including tax)

Price is normally USD$299, I paid that in HNL Best Buy for mine and seen it elsewhere on mainland same price.

Yep, every best buy vending machine at any us airport I've been to has it for $299.

But does the Vending machine include TAX in the state on total sale?

Ooh yes sorry, forgot about the tax, almost certain that is on top of the quoted price 8-9% or so.

Doesn't really add up to much of a saving over the AUD$399 price here though ...less GST claimed back via TRS.

I bought a portable Bose Soundock for iPhone too got leather carry case worth $90 for free. so that helped the total price.

Got mine from the factory outlet store in Jackson, NJ - $249 plus tax for a 'factory renewed' product that looked totally brand new (fully sealed plastic bags etc inside). Could have scored an extra 10% if I could have waited 2 days for the Presidents Day sale...

OP, there's factory outlet stores in California and Georgia... http://www.bose.com/controller?event=VIEW_STATIC_PAGE_EVENT&url=/locator/bose_stores/allstores.jsp

EDIT: sales tax was 7% I think... but still well under $300...

Good thinking, I bought another pair 2 weeks ago in David Jones when they had them on special at $359. Shrek heading to Europe next week, I'll get him to lodge a claim :)

Off topic... but have just purchased an Audio Technica ANC 23 in ear noise cancelling... small compact does a wonderful job, have had enough lugging my Bose head phones around.
Will just see if I am an in-ear sort of guy.. initial impression is superior noise cancelling and sound quality compared to my QC15s (and no bulk!)
1/3rd the price...

Well I actually got to use them finally in flight.
Needed the instructions to locate where the battery goes in.
No info on Hi or Lo....sound increase right?
Put them on and engine noise reduced but the kid behind me and the women talking I could still hear?????
Found that with my ASUS tablet and movie playing with volume on max was not loud enough to block\cancel the kids yelling/screaming/the dong of the service call button or even people talking around me!
Wondered if I had a dud pair.
But attached to the phone and playing music up loud completely blocked out the noise. The sound quality is average as reported.
I did find I had to adjust the position, so that the ear muffs, where lower, than comfort, to get better noise cancelling effect.
The women beside me that she could hear a noise from the earphones when I listened to the loud music.
This is compared to my in-ear isolation ear phones that are attached to my Sony Vaio Z series with noise cancelling coming from the laptop.
I expected better for low sound from devices and hope the QC20's are! ;/

Mmm.. Interesting.
I have never had any problem with my QC15s on any flight & utilising the aircraft IFE or my laptop/tablet, I usually find that it alleviates approx. 70% of the cabin & engine noise.
I do hope that they are fitting your ears properly & the NC function is set/working to optimum level.

N/C in general works best in alleviate the low frequency white noise of the aircraft in flight - no so much sounds emanating from human beings.

For that you need NM's in ear thingos ...
