Anyone been to both?
We have been Maldives but due to the wife's love of the kardashians :-| she would like to go where they have been.....bora bora

that being said the Maldives has set a high bar

my only issue is how to get there in luxury on the cheap to either destination

we have 75k velocity (won't increase much between now and desired departure)
100k Coles flybuys (can increase this if we shop exclusively here)
25k QFF (which increases daily due to Qantas cash card use only (and the odd eBay portal purchases)
(could increase if Woolworth get their act together)
so would expect 60k QFF by the time we want to go in September next year (wedding anniversary)

Happy to purchase aa points as we seem to do a lot of this, but would like to make use of velocity & flybuys if possible

now if bora bora is the consensus choice......anyway to get from there cheaply to the US and then return back to Australia

We have been to both Bora Bora and Maldives. ..they are both beautiful places and I can't pick between the 2...if you have been to Maldives, then you should visit BB....also consider Moorea which is also a very nice island. ..we used AA points to fly Qf Syd to Akl connecting to TN Akl to Ppt. We paid around USD 500 each to fly from Ppt to Bob to Moz to Ppt!!

We bought IHG pts to stay at both IC Thalasso and Le Moana at BB costing USD 350 per night. We used HH points to stay at Hilton Moorea and paid about Aud $150 per night to upgrade to an OW villa.

You must have a meal at La Vila Mahana at Bora Bora. ..not cheap and must book way ahead! A lot of Hollywood stars eat here on their honeymoon! :)

If it makes you feel any better, we found BB slightly cheaper than Maldives! BB is visited by a lot of Americans whereas Maldives was mainly Europeans.

Fyi, NZ, AF, TN are the 3 main airlines that fly to Ppt with Hawaiian flying once a week from Hnl.

do try to get to Moorea if you go to BB. Found TN to be very reasonable out of Akl..used both qantas and emirates lounges in AKL

Only been to the Maldives so far and honestly I find it hard to see how Bora Bora can be any better overall.

I was looking into Hilton Moorea and Bora Bora but the inconsistent reviews put me off. If it was only my decision I'd go back to Maldives but the missus wants to check out Bora Bora so I'll book it as soon as Hilton finish renovations and reopens as Conrad (hopefully they will offer points redemption with 5th night free).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Loved Maldives. Stunning snorkelling and beaches. But be very careful on Island selection. Some are used for cheap charter flights from the UK and they tend to form large groups and take over from the multicultural experience.

Seriously - your partner admits to being a fan of the Kardashians?

If a Kardashian is a cardigan made from dash hounds, than I doubt it'd be needed in Bora Bora! ;)

If a Kardashian is an imitation celebrity, then you definitely won't need one in Bora Bora!

I've only been to Maldives.....which is spectacular, granted.....but next time I think I'd like to try Bora Bora et al.

Back on topic...BB si most definitely worth a visit; it is quite different in character from the Maldives and I found it (on 2 occasions) rather more interesting. I agree with drross above that you shoukld also visit Moorea if you go to this part of the world.
