Hi guys,
I'm having the usual trouble booking a J Syd/LHR/Syd Classic Award Flight with points from Syd - there are just no available flights for me as a Bronze member. BUT - If I look at Syd/BKK return and then BKK/LHR return there are flights available, but to pay the taxes for BKK/LHR I have to present my c card in Bangkok within 2 days, which I can't do as I am in Sydney. Does anyone know any way around this?
Thanks very much,
Zoom

I booked from hong kong to lax one way using points and just rang the QFF centre in Sydney and paid the taxes then. This was about 3 months ago so i imagine nothings changed since then

I've also recently booked a classic awards seat one-way LAX-HKG (it is actually on a CX flight), through the QFF call centre. You'll just have to pay the booking fee.

It also depends on when you are going, if say 9months to a year out should find plenty, status also helps availability. There are cancellations every month buy just need to be lucky to find them. If no luck as said, call them.

Thanks everyone for your replies they are very much appreciated. It seems the phone is the way to go, so will give Qantas a call.
Cheers,

Hopefully you will go ok - BKK insists on seeing the CC used to book or they'll cancel the booking, which has caused some problems for people in the past.
It is supposed to be changing very soon (was told this in May) but if Qantas AU can verify it all for you over the phone, will be a huge load off your mind. (Of course, TH *soon* is nothing like AU *soon*. ;) )

I know that for flights originating in Jakarta provided you pay by Amex you can do it all by email with no need to attend the Qantas offices in indonesia.

This comes up often, and ones experience buying tickets in one country does not translate to the same expectation for tickets from another country, both Thailand and Chinese origin tickets have issues where the card is to be presented before ticketing. You also need to be aware different fare rules apply in a lot of cases, and refund/cancellation fees for non award tickets can vary significantly.

Recently had the same issue booking a DPS/HKG/CDG return which wanted me to show my card in DPS within 2 weeks to confirm. When i rang the QFF line they ended up cancelling my award flight and rebooking it again through Australia and taking the taxes
