I use a variety of methods when purchasing tickets - TAs, On-line travel websites, and using the airline websites directly.

When I try to use the Cathay Pacific Australian website, I often find the pricing of flights always quote the FULL economy fare rather then the discount economy fares. I know the discount economy fares exist because they appear on other booking websites like expedia, zuji etc.
So......my question is...... On the CX website, am I doing something wrong, or does CX purposely not wish to offer the discounted economy fares?

My example is MEL-JNB return where the CX website quotes AUD $11,000 for an economy ticket (yet AUD $2,500 using Expedia)

They do tend to only offer H/B/K type of fares on the website for normal searches - at least that's my experience.

Try going through the Offers page - eg Discounted International Flights, Bonus Miles - Cathay Pacific and doing a search from the links on the specials pages. You'll normally see discounted fares there.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That has been my experience when I have searched for airfares on the CX website.

Also when searching for business class airfares I have only ever come across full J class on the CX website when I know for sure and certain that I, D class are available....

Ok, so still no real good anwser on this one. Is there a TA on this board that can maybe explain the logic of Cathay hosting a website where no-one will purchase a ticket?

Qantas, SQ, Malaysian, Emirates (and pretty much everyone else) allow discount economy fares to be purchased throught heir website. Why do CX dislike this model? Does anyone know?
