Good evening all,

Myself and Mrs Scash are starting to plan a trip to Europe for about this time next year. We have enough QFF points to book J BNE-Europe (haven't decided where to yet) and F DXB-BNE. We want to go with EK on the A380 (bar, shower) but after trying numerous random dates there seems to be no reward availability for the 380 from/to BNE (can get seats on the 777). There are reward seats on the 380 out of MEL or SYD, and on the outbound leg this wouldn't worry us, but would prefer to fly back in to BNE.

Would anyone know why there seems to be no reward availability in/out of BNE on the EK A380?

Thanking you.

Generally it means the airline believes they can sell seats on the direct flight for $$$.

If you can get an award via MEL then you should consider booking it.

Just be prepared to use what is available so grab a great seat now.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I understand from your post that you are only seeking the DXB-BNE leg in F? Does this mean you are looking at separate rewards tickets?

I have only done returns (starting in Europe) but have always found quite good availability in F to BNE from the USA or Europe - I suspect part of the problem is that you might be seeking just from DXB? I feel that you are far likelier to get a F reward from Europe to Australia than from Dubai to Australia (yes - it doesnt make sense as the same DXB-BNE flight is involved, but sense is not applicable to airline booking systems :) )

Thanks everyone for your replies. Juddles yes I am looking at DXB-BNE in F as a separate ticket as this will pretty much use up all my points and I wanted to have the F experience on the long leg. I was just going to pick up a cheap fare from Europe to DXB. I have also looked at going via SIN or HKG and will also be using Frequent Flyer Solutions for some ideas.

And yes the booking system makes no sense. For instance, if you book BNE DXB PAR with BNE DXB in J and then DXB PAR in Y it’s the same number of points if you book BNE DXB PAR in J the whole way.

Back to the computer!

I've seen the same issue many times. It appears the airline sometimes reserve the seat for the entire journey instead of releasing just for the one segment. I guess they are hoping to either sell or get the seat redeemed for the entire journey instead of running the risk of having the seat empty for a segment (based on booking history).

You could try ringing up for the booking and say you can see a seat for the xx_-DXB-BNE booking (if you see that) but only want the DXB-BNE leg. I know a WP who had the same problem in J on a QF flight and they fixed the problem on the phone.

Might not work given this is Emirates but maybe it will. Good luck.

You are referring to Married Segments here.
