Apologies if this is the wrong spot but I was thinking about my future plans for a oneworld award trip and wondered whether points were a viable option for paying for accommodation for the journey.

Checking a few examples on the Qantas website tells me the answer is NO when I see examples costing around 68.000 points rather than $500 in cash.

That seems crazy, so have I missed something? Is there an alternative? Or is it just that crazy?

Thanks
Gary

Qantas has "classic hotel rewards". I have zero experience with it, but I guess it s similar to classic flight rewards, in term of availablities (limited) and points value (good). It s australia hotel only thought.

Otherwise yes, point plus pay hotel is not great value, and I think that's with a current offer of 20% discounts on points plus pay with hotels... Imagine without...

Looks like Classic Hotel Rewards is only for Australia which I guess is why it didn't come up. Though looking at the results, I cannot say it looks any better from the point of using points. (pun intended)

And yes I would hate to imagine pricing without the current 20%.

I'll stick to using them for flights - even general shopping would have to be better value, which isn't saying much.
