Hey guys, just a quick question, for flights on SIA Metal, do you guys book via VA or directly with SIA then add the Velocity number for SC and points?
I can see on VA website there are saver fares then flexi, even though flexi cost's around 60 more, when hovering above the fare tabs Saver doesn't include Priority Check in where as the flexi tab does offer it, just curious why that's happening? Im a SG by the way. :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

A flexi for $60 more is a bit of a no brainer re points and SCs, savers more often don't earn anything on SQ or when on VA coded SQ flights: *Selected Saver fare classes (T, V, Q) are ineligible for Points earn when travelling on Virgin Australia international long haul services operated by Singapore Airlines.

I was in a similar situation recently, and looking to fly peak period from BNE to BKK. Two things steered me towards booking directly with SIA and adding my Velocity number to the booking. 1) The fares were actually cheaper on the SIA website when compared to the VA website (for flexi fares as I wanted to ensure SC & FF points) and 2) the flight options were better at the time of booking (wanted day flights on the return leg from Singapore if possible and VA wasn't showing this as an option). Did something similar last year and didn't have an issue with the SC & FF points coming through, so assume won't have an issue this time around. :D

thanks Guys, was thinking of snagging the QF .BR 400 return fare but i guess it was not meant to be. SQ it is.

For seat selection, can we call up VA GCC for that or is it all done with SIA? For some reason I can't select it online, an error keeps coming up

+1 for SQ - was the reason I made the jump to VA from QF.

The W class SQ fares are also quite cost competitive with cheaper VA fares, but earn full economy SCs (i.e. double what you'd get on VA). Just be sure to check the fare class and flight details - some (not-that-much) cheaper classes don't earn on SQ, and anything on Silk Air metal, even with a SQ number, won't earn zip.

Y fare classified class is H and the basis code is
HLPROW

I originally booked with Virgin on an SIA flight. I wasn't able to select seats or access anything. Virgin/SIA couldnt even guarantee we would sit together - and this was for a Gold Velocity member. Anyway, we had to cancel that flight and we then rebooked direct with SIA. Fares were significantly cheaper and included a silk air flight as well. We can access our booking and select seats. I dont think the Velocity programme is worth it for us as the Virgin flights aren't practically suited for domestic travel so we didnt care about losing the status points.

Logging into SIA manage booking i see they have assigned seats for me.... at the back of the plane and in the middle seat which i really dislike. Still can't chose other seats.

Singapore Airlines currently has a sale to many destinations and the airfares look good. e.g. SYD-SIN from $710 return.

Likely to be in classes not valid for FF earn, unlike the $400 QF via Br special. One of the better things about QFF, no ??? about FF earn on class.

Next to no points (10%) & highly restrictive & nil SC.
Damn cheap tho.
Seems price dumping is in vogue earlier this year.

Why don't you ring them and get it changed. I normally find SIA pretty good that way...

Thanks Bolthead, I will ring them on Tuesday to enquire about seats, I would of called today but I sound like a frog. :/

Same here - recently did ADL - BKK, and booked SIA with Velocity number for the same two reasons. Seat selection no problem. Still waiting after two months for 3 of the 4 flights to post though, but am assuming that's post-Sabre stuff. For me having Velocity status works well as I can use SQ lounges when travelling through SE Asia on SQ. Nice on this trip to be able to host my sister in the lounge before her return trip to Europe :D

That is quite a susprise.

A few years ago I booked a cheap BNE-BKK return flight on SQ website and earned 100% miles with BMI. I just looked at SQ website and this deal earns 10% miles, the Sweet deals earns 50% miles and only Flexi Saver and above earn 100% miles.

When did this change? That is poor.

Just called up to amend my seats and got seats closer to the front. She did recognise I had status... According to the operator it was Virgin Atlantic :D
She did give my partner and I an extra 15 KG per person so im pretty happy with that. I can see she assigned Non Veg Hindu Meals to ourselves... is that the standard meal? SIA have too many choices its confusing me.

You know what they say, it is the journey not the destination that is important.... trying something like a Hindu meal would be interesting to say the least....:D At least if you decide to change your religion you will be one step ahead in the food department. (assuming you're not already Hindu)

LOL I'll keep it with the Hindu meal for now :p , food before Religion, at least there are no strict food rules being Catholic and Buddhist.
