Hi guys,
I am able to see a particular flight from China to Australia via Singapore on Singapore Air when I search return from Melbourne. However, if I search one-way from China (WUH), no flights are available. Doing the same one-way search on Singapore Air's website shows the flight as being there. The price on Virgin is much better...

Is it possible to book one way from international via Virgin?

thanks!

Not unless you phone VA up, or make the booking under SQ's booking system, but put in your VA FF #.
Booking from Australia to Asia on VA's booking system flying SQ, yes, flying out, it can be done one way, but not coming into Australia on VA's booking system.

I would have a stab in the dark and say this is a fraud prevention more than anything. Even most TAs wont touch that kinda stuff with a barge pole.
(can't really elaborate more on that sorry)

The other thing to remember is not to compare return from MEL to a one way flight. There are a list of issues with that, the biggest being that a one way flight is (normally) way more expensive than part of a return journey. There are also things like fare availability, married sectors, code share agreements so on and so forth that you have not considered. VA might not even be allowed to ticket a one way flight China - AUS on SQ metal.

Think of it like this: Air Berlin sell tickets SYD-BNE but you cannot purchase that without meeting particular conditions. QF sell LAX - JFK, again they cannot sell that to you without first meeting certain conditions. Ticketing rules are all very complicated :)
