Hello
I can book two j class seats BNE-SIN for 93,500 SQ points plus $$678 in taxes. (126,225 in VA points after conversion)

I can book BNE--SYD-SIN with VA using 187,600 VA points and $160 in taxes.

So booking with SQ is a saving of 61,375 points BUT will cost me $ 518 more in taxes.
Is the 61,375 worth more than $518?
Advice please?

Personally I'd value the 61,375 points at more than $518 but it comes down to how you plan to use them in the future and whether you would rather use points or pay cash.

What plane/J seats are they using for:

BNE>SIN

SYD>SIN

If its a day flight, I would prefer to save my 60K points and be OK with the regional 2-2-2 seats (if that's what they are flying BNE>SIN).

I value 61k points at a lot more than $500, but it's entirely your choice and decision at what you value the points at. That's at least 1 more J reward seat.

I think 250k VA points transferred to krisflyer equals 2 F reward seats

ok -I can cut out the BNE-SYD leg ( which was A380 from SYD -SIN) and actually do BNE-SIN ( direct) A330 for only 160,000 VA points and pay a total of $160 in tax.
So a difference of 33k points to save $500....

Originally looking at Syd-SIN as it was A380, but then we still have to fly BNE-SYD.

Its a day flight, so I can put up with the old J class seats from BNE-SIN

Remember the 47k points one way will get you to other Asian destinations too. Not just Singapore.

Wait until the changes and will make much more sense booking using VFF points.
Do you mean the VA points changes? The trouble is ,I don't want to risk waiting until 1st June as it is likely that the points seats will be gone by then....

I booked KUL-SIN-ADL yesterday with VA. 140000 points +$202.08 compared to 85000 SQ points (114750 VA) + ~$1000. Saved $800 with 25000 points - seemed like a deal. Have to book the flights to Asia with SQ.

Now to work out the seat selection. As VA Gold I've been allocated a seat. But the family hasn't, which feels like a disaster waiting to happen.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Ahh that explains it. It all comes down to what you value points at, 25,000. When 9,900 gets you upgrade to J from East Coast to Per.

You will have difficulty with seat assignments because you've booked through VA, the SQ website won't allow it. Try using the SQ PNR on iphone app, I've never had issues selecting a seat this way, although SQ don't release a huge amount of seats for preselection

Booking Y was a bit of a hard call. Many discussions with SWMBO, in the end there was no way we could get the 4 of us to asia and back on points in J. Lack of availability and lack of points. The money saved booking with VA should cover the planned meals in Singapore.

Great tip on the seating. The biggest concern is they've allocated a seat for me but not for anyone else. I can just picture being spread all over the aircraft.

I've found J availability reasonable on SQ, but have never tried for anything more than 2

You should be able to select seats for all of you via the app, albeit a very limited selection

That's if you have a flexi ticket. (in my opinion worst value as the flexi ticket is circa $600)

If you have a saver ticket and upgrade is 30,000

A reward redemption is circa 37,500 points.
