Earn 10,000 bonus Velocity points if you keep cover for 90 days, and a further 5,000 points after 11 months:

I got a quick quote for a cat and it looks like it would cost around $90 for 3 months. I’m sure someone could find a better price though ;)

I do not own a cat but couldn’t see anything in the T&Cs saying proof of pet is required.

It’ll be very interesting to see what happens if lots of non-pet-owners take out pet insurance to get the bonus points. Will the insurers mind, given that the number of claims-per-policy will reduce (theoretically resulting in lower premiums)? Will they see it as a loophole to be shut down?

One word of caution: when you apply for pet insurance, you do need to type in your pet’s details (breed, age, sex etc). If you don’t have a pet you’ll be knowingly providing false information to an insurer which, if discovered, will potentially result in cancellation of the policy and potential problems with taking out insurance — any insurance — in future.

It’s not something I’d recommend.

Edit: what you could do, of course, is ask a friend or family member with a pet for permission to enter their pet’s details. That means you’d be insuring a real pet, even if the policy were never used.
